Mobi’News August 2021 : Google Maps, Super app MaaS of Jakarta, MaaS Global…

As every month, find our selection of three news in the mobility sector. In August, MaaS was in the spotlight. From the integration in Google Maps of a feature so long-awaited by motorists, to the first test of the future biggest MaaS app
and 11 million euros raised by a MaaS startup. Focus on these news that marked this summer 2021.

Google Maps : soon the price of tolls ?

After the Voi’s integration, Google Maps continues to expand its features! According to Android Police, Google has sent a survey to members of their Preview program, informing them of the upcoming integration of toll prices in Maps. An essential piece of information that is missing in most route planning platforms. Indeed, if most of them identify toll roads, few displays the rate. This is a useful feature that allows you to filter and classify different routes based on price.

Although Google has not yet specified how it wants to collect these prices. It is probable that the Californian group will rely on data from Waze. Company-owned since 2013, which has allowed it to integrate the display of level crossings. Added by the Waze community, the prices are mainly estimates based on the day of the week, the time of day, the type of vehicle, the itinerary, or even subscriptions and parameters.

Because toll prices in Waze are estimations, they don’t replace actual prices set by the toll operators, which are published on their websites and road signs.

MaaS Jakarta: Successful first test

A few months ago, we announced the beginning of the development of “one of the most ambitious future MaaS platforms in the world“. A super app, integrating Lyko’s API, in order to cover the mobility needs of nearly 30 million inhabitants and to offer grouped booking and door-to-door trip planning.

After 3 months of hard work, the first tests were carried out on the PT Jak Lingo Indonesia network. Tested on different modes of transport (bus, metro, train…) on August 18 & 19, the tests were very conclusive. Both in terms of payment through the application and the smart card. As stated by Syafrin Liputo, head of DKI Jakarta transport agency, “From the test results, it was pretty good. It was read from the payment system, as well as from the application. This phased implementation is completed according to the previous target which was aimed at mid-August 2021″
