“If we want more customers to use public transit, providing travel tools that are easy and intuitive is key.” These are the words of Shanifah Rieara, Acting Chief Customer Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). With an average of over half a billion passengers a year, the MTA is the largest transit system in North America. An extensive transportation network includes 26 subway lines, 386 bus lines, and 16 commuter rail lines. Different transportation alternatives are now all integrated into a single application. Zoom without further ado on the flagship features of this app, guaranteed to “transform the way New Yorkers get around “…
The promising successor to the MYmta app
The backbone of the transit network, MTA’s brand-new application is shaping up to be an indispensable tool for riders. A multifunctional application that now guarantees a seamless mobility experience. And, according to Shanifah Rieara, it’s “just a click or two away”. The application is currently in beta testing, with a launch scheduled for late 2023. A new platform that will replace the MYmta application in the stores, offering current users the advantage of not having to download it again.
An “All-in-One” application
Developed in collaboration with former MTA Transit Tech Lab gas pedal winner and MaaS provider Axon Vibe, MTA’s app is powered by their innovative technology. A centralized application featuring the following functionalities :
- Route planning
- Consult timetables for metro, bus, LIRR, métro-nord, PATH and AirTrain.
- Real-time alert updates
- Notification of congested trains
- Real-time bus tracking (number of stops, arrival times, etc.)
- Access to a dynamic map of service stations
- Route reservation
Various functions can be intelligently customized, as long as the user shares this data. This wealth of information is then made available to New York’s transportation network to meet the needs of users. But also, to contribute to the objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
Axon Vibe is thrilled to continue supporting the MTA with our smart transit technology, aimed at promoting sustainable travel and increasing public transit ridership.
