From the investment in Lime scooter to the recent acquisition of Routematch, a provider of public transport planning and reservation solutions, Uber is seeking to centralize various modes of transport on its platform. Now it’s time for car rental integration ! A focus on this new feature, which is set to make Uber the must-have mobility application for daily life.
Uber Rent, a new service at just the right time
With more than 71% of French people planning to spend their summer holidays in France (OpinionWay Survey) and the bankrupt Hertz, Uber did not wait to rush into the breach. Indeed, already available in Australia via a partnership with the American company GetAround in 2018, France is today the second country to offer this service. A service launched with the help of the Irish Car Trawler, which allows users to search, compare and book vehicles available in different rental agencies in France and abroad. And all this without leaving the Uber app !
Via the new tab “Rental”, the user will only have to indicate the days and times of rental. As well as his age and return address. Among the rental agencies, Uber aggregates ADA – Corsica, ADA France, Avis, Budget, CCE Cars, Dollar, Europcar, Firefly, Goldcar, Hertz, Interrent, Keddy by Europcar, RentScape, Rhodium, SIXT and TravelCar. According to their website, rental is limited from one month to three years, with the possibility of buying it at the end of the contract at a preferential price.
On the way to the reference MaaS platform
With this new option, Uber strengthens its MaaS (Mobility as a service) strategy.
